:: BIOGRAPHY ::Colleagues and friends don’t often describe me as an enigma wrapped in bacon, but I’d like them to. Why? Because everything tastes better wrapped in bacon. And if I stand for anything, it is primarily good taste. And infantile bathroom humor. Actually, now that I think of it, infantile bathroom humor would be first, and then good taste. Considering those directives, allow me to describe my journey from relative obscurity to the potty-mouthed writer of note, virtually standing before you. Just to make it sound more official, I’m gonna break-it-on-down for you in third-person: Young started his career as a journalist covering the Consumer Electronics beat, including a syndicated weekly home technology column for The Oregonian, countless articles for USA Today, and full-time editorial posts at magazines. Not content to simply rest on his journalism laurels, Young plied his word-craft in a copy writing career, writing retail carton text and user manuals for Microsoft and others. As his copy writing client list grew to include advertising, design, and public relations agencies, so did his fascination with technology. In an unprecedented move, he shocked the burgeoning "Jeff Young Community" by laying down his quill and picking up his pocket-protector to become proficient in computer networking, gaining an official Microsoft certification in Windows 2000 Server. It seemed like a good idea at the time...that was before the bursting of the Tech bubble. Suddenly, people with far more knowledge in computer networking than him were willing to take low-rung jobs with titles like Mouse Ball Sanitation Engineer and On/Off Switch Presser. That shift in workforce dynamics was enough of an incentive for him to make a fresh start, refocusing his energy on his deferred copy writing career with first-hand experience in technology under his belt. Since then, Young's client list has grown to include some of the finest creative agencies and clients in the world. To see some of the fruits of this collaboration, check out his portfolio. The man, and his legend live on. Happily, in fact, in Portland, Oregon with his wife and two sons. Hire him to write for you, and help him complete the next chapter of this modern day fable of rags to riches.©2008 Jeffrey Adam Young |
